We love bringing special interests to life.

For the 2026 Solar Eclipse journey, Iceland Challenge DMC was selected as the local partner in Iceland for Astro Trails, supporting 180 astronomy enthusiasts travelling aboard the expedition cruise ship SH Diana.

Our role was to design, coordinate and operate a fully customised Iceland program around the cruise itinerary — including pre- and post-cruise programs and shore experiences across three Icelandic ports: Seyðisfjörður, the Westman Islands and Reykjavík.

The result? Complex, beautiful and full of fun.

Five very active days on land took our guests across volcanoes and glaciers, into ice caves and onto glacier hikes. They experienced Super Jeeps and off-road driving, black-sand beaches, waterfalls, Icelandic cuisine, museums and a hike on Eldfell — the volcano that dramatically transformed Heimaey in 1973. And on their very last night, Iceland gave them one final surprise: the Northern Lights.

Behind the experiences was a complex operation involving three hotels, multiple transfers, ports, luggage logistics, guides, coordinators, drivers and numerous local suppliers.

But the most important result wasn't logistical.

At our final meeting, we saw happy faces and heard guests telling us:

“Everything was perfect.”
“Thank you for taking such good care of us.”
“You did an amazing job.”

That is exactly why we do what we do.

What made it work?

Trust. Our client trusted us to take responsibility on the ground and make decisions when needed.

Teamwork. Program planners, guides, port coordinators, hospitality staff, experienced drivers, luggage assistants, tour operators, transport companies, hotels, restaurants — and many people the guests may never have seen, but without whom an operation of this scale would not have been possible.

Local expertise. Deep knowledge of Iceland and the products we were working with allowed us to plan realistically and operate confidently.

Flexibility. Because even the best-planned complex project will bring surprises. When circumstances changed, we adapted quickly, brought in the right resources and found solutions at the moment they were needed.

For us, this is what being a DMC is really about.

It is not simply booking a bus, a hotel or an excursion. It is taking responsibility for the entire guest experience in the destination.

We genuinely loved working on this project and are proud that something so operationally complex could also feel personal, exciting and full of joy.

Thank you, Astro Trails, for your trust.
