Ultra Marathon

Location: South Iceland, near the Selfoss area. Dates: 10-13.07.2025

Custom-designed routes for running, hiking, or cycling — with full infrastructure, logistics, safety, and support

Ultra Marathon Iceland Challenge - is a private two-day run & hike challenge organized by British travel company Action Challenge and hosted by Iceland Challenge DMC.

Held from 10–13 July 2025 in South Iceland, near the Selfoss area, the event was designed exclusively for a selected group of participants and offered a total of 84 kilometers of running and hiking across Iceland’s extraordinary natural landscapes.

Participants completed 42 kilometers per day, traversing highland trails, lava fields, moss-covered valleys, hot springs, thermal rivers, volcanic lakes, glacial basins, and colorful rhyolite mountains in remote wilderness areas. A highlight of the route was a marathon starting from Þingvellir National Park, allowing runners the rare experience of crossing the geological divide between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

The routes were developed specifically for this challenge by the Iceland Challenge team, requiring over 100 hours of hiking and route testing to ensure a perfect balance between adventure, safety, and visual impact.

Full logistics and infrastructure — including basecamps, route marking, support vehicles, rest stops, and accommodation services — were handled by Iceland Challenge DMC. The operational team included 15 professionals ranging from project managers and route specialists to drivers, cooks, and field assistants.

Trusted partners for this event included Gray Line Iceland, Keahotels, Fontana Spa, and Midgardur by Center Hotels.

The Ultra Marathon Iceland Challenge was amazing and unforgettable experience for all participants.
